Smith Mt. Dam and Lake (no relation), near Charlottesville, VA. Fond memories of the Herchenriders, parents Dick and Norma and their children John (my age), Bob (one yr. older than Brad) and the twins Bruce and Jimmy. They had a campsite at Pelican Point.
Many years later, I remember hitch-hiking on VA 40 across the southern part of Virginia while training with the National Guard in Blacksburg, VA. It took me forever to get a ride. One clear memory comes to mind, diving off a 50 foot cliff into the lake.
As kids, we would stay up late and gamble for Sweet Tarts candy. Whoever won was usually sick in the morning. The campground was run by the Giles family. Crappie fishing was excellent. This was also our first experience with waterskiing and sailing.
